General Information
The
North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District is a local governmental agency that was formed in 1981. Our mission is to serve the public by protecting the air
resources within Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity counties which are located in northwestern California. Protection of the air resource is accomplished through public
education, enforcement of air quality regulations, and promotion of clean air programs. We provide these high quality customer service programs to the citizens of the
North Coast and the diversified industrial economic base located here.
Much
of the AQMD's revenue comes from fees paid by businesses and industries that emit air pollution. Additional funding is derived from a clean air surcharge imposed on all
vehicles registered within the AQMD, and monies obtained from other State funding sources. The
Annual Budget
runs on a fiscal year from July 1 to June 30. The District administers a series air pollution reduction programs including: open burning, grants, permitting
of stationary sources, emission inventory and air quality monitoring, and planning and rule development. If you would like additional information about any of the
programs we offer, services we perform, or would like copies of documents, reports, or files, please complete the
Public Information Request
form and return it to the District.
