Compliance Settlement Agreement Reached
On
April 20, 2017, the the North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District and the Humboldt Redwood Company LLC (HRC) reached settlement regarding
alleged violations of the federal Clean Air Act and District Rules at the Scotia biomass plant primarily for excess emissions of air pollutants such as carbon
monoxide and fine particulates. The public hearing scheduled on April 27, 2017 before the North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District Hearing Board
to consider the District's Petition for an Order of Abatement concerning the HRC Scotia biomass facility was therefore canceled. The District has been monitoring
for fine particulate matter in both Scotia and Rio Dell to ensure public health is protected, and will continue to monitor facility operations and completion
of all requirements.
