Fire Training Burn Permits

Within the District's tri-county jurisdiction, there are numerous fire protection agencies, both volunteer and full time. When these organizations conduct training exercises involving the open burning of vegetation, structures, or other materials, a District Fire Training Burn Permit (Form 1500) is required and a Fire Training Burn Authorization Number (Form 1501).

Once the permit is approved, the fire agency needs to contact the District within the 24 hour period before the proposed training to obtain a Burn Authorization Number. There is no fee for this type of permit.

May contain: person, human, fireman, helmet, clothing, and apparel

Are there additional requirements?

Whenever a building is to be demolished, renovated, or burned for fire training purposes, an asbestos demolition / renovation notification form must be filled out and submitted to the District in order to comply with the Asbestos & NESHAP (National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants) Regulations. If asbestos abatement is to occur, notification forms must be received by the District at least 10 working days prior to commencement of removal (click here for instructions and forms). In June 2001, the EPA and CARB issued a joint memoradum to Californina Fire Chiefs in regards to Fire Department training burns, that highlights regulatory removal and notification requirements.
